Oldest son of Eagles coach Reid found dead

BETHLEHEM, Pa. (AP) - Garrett Reid, the oldest son of Philadelphia Eagles coach Andy Reid, was found dead Sunday morning in his room at the club's training camp at Lehigh University. He was 29.

​Delia “Dee” Farminer 1942 - 2015

Delia "Dee" Farminer, 73, died March 26, 2015, at her home in North Newton. Born March 13, 1942, in Southampton, England, she was the daughter of Thomas and Gwendoline (Hooker) Eldridge. On Aug. 19, 1961, she married Eric Farminer in Southampton, England. He died on March 25, 1996. A resident of Great Bend since 1965, coming from Southampton, England, she recently lived in North Newton to be close to family. She was a caregiver for Elder Care.

​Sister Connie Haug, O.P. 1934 - 2015

Sister Connie Haug (Sister Omer), 80, died March 26, 2015, in the Dominican Sisters' convent infirmary in Great Bend. Born Sept. 28, 1934, in Seneca, as Constance Lucille Haug, Sister Connie was the daughter of Omer and Lucille Noll Haug. She entered the Dominican Sisters' Community in Great Bend on Aug. 28, 1952, and pronounced her first vows on June 13, 1955. She celebrated 50 years of religious profession in 2005.

​James Lane Williams 1923 - 2015

BOULDER, Colo. - James Lane Williams, 91, of Boulder, Colo., died of natural causes on March 26, 2015, surrounded by his family. The son of Marie Steckel and J.O. Williams, he was born Nov. 27, 1923, in Ellinwood. His family lived in several towns in Oklahoma and Kansas before settling in Great Bend in 1937. He served in the United States Army during World War II and married Helen Thompson on March 25, 1944, while stationed in El Paso, Texas. He and Helen were married for 60 great years.

Common Core Tests are Failures

A 6th grader in East Texas recently challenged state lawmakers to do what she and every other public-school kid have to do during testing season: "Sit in a room for up to four hours, without talking, writing, drawing, reading, or using your cell phone." Because millions of children are taking Common Core standardized tests this time of year, I did her one better. I took a 4th-grade English Language Arts practice test. The good news is I passed.

New rodeo book has Kansas ties

Andover resident John McBeth has been awarded just about every accolade available to a rodeo cowboy. He won the title of World Champion Saddle Bronc Rider in 1974, and after a long career participating in and promoting the sport of rodeo was recently enshrined in the ProRodeo Hall of Fame (2010), and the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Center (2013).

​Billy Joe Leatherman 1939 - 2015

Billy Joe Leatherman, 75, died March 26, 2015, at Great Bend Health and Rehabilitation Center. Born Aug. 11, 1939, in Stafford, he was the son of Merle M. and Marie (Koelsch) Leatherman. On Jan. 10, 1960, he married Iona Lebsack in Otis. A resident of Great Bend since 1960, coming from St. John, he was an oilfield chemical salesman.
