Roswood Services uncorks winery with celebration

The launch of Rosewood Services Inc.'s latest social entrepreneurial venture blew in with the wind. Rosewood Winery was christened by way of an open house during a day of gale force winds. That didn't prevent dozens of people from traveling to the country setting, located nine miles west of Great Bend, to participate in the evening event.

Sisters of Peace to host Annual Mission Benefit Bazaar

The Dominican Sisters of Peace in Great Bend will host their Annual Mission Benefit Bazaar from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 10, at 3600 Broadway Ave. Participants can enjoy a beverage and coffee cake in the morning, soup and pie for lunch, hundreds of handcrafted and homemade items, two drawings for prizes, unique gift theme baskets and a silent auction.

It's time for a free movie night and popcorn at the Great Bend Public Library, 1409 Williams St. The Adults' Night Out movie, "What to Expect When You're Expecting," will be shown at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 9. Must be 18 or older. Doors open at 6:45 p.m. and close at 7:10 p.m.

Hurricane Sandy causes severe damage in rural Haiti

ELLINWOOD - Hurricane Sandy has caused severe damage to nine communities in Haiti where Star of Hope has projects. Torrential rain fell for more than 24 hours resulting in flash flooding, landslides and rivers overflowing their banks. Reports of impassable roads, loss of crops and livestock are widespread throughout rural Haiti.
