SBA Awards Kansas Commerce, Agriculture Departments $500,000 Grant for Trade Activities

The Kansas Department of Commerce and the Department of Agriculture have been awarded a grant of more than $505,000 from the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) through the State Trade and Export Promotion Grants Program (STEP). This award was announced today at Governor Brownback's Economic Summit on Animal Agriculture in Garden City.

Trees vs Grass

Many times when I go out on home visits, the homeowners concerns are with trees on their property. One reason for your trees being in distress may very well be your lawn. If your grass, (especially cool season grasses such as fescue) is allowed to grow up to the trunk of your trees, the competition for water and other nutrients may cause your tree to decline in health. Check It Out!

If you have been to the library in the past few days, you will have noticed a big change! Many of the tables and chairs have been removed to make way for the "Hometown Teams" Smithsonian Exhibit. Crates should be arriving before Friday filling up the empty space. Library services will remain as usual, and we have tables set aside for you to continue to use. Set up will begin next week, docents will be trained, and there will be a Chamber Coffee on Friday, January 30th. Great Bend student on Deans Honor Roll for Fort Hays State University

Sarah Jean Neeland, Great Bend, a 2012 graduate of Great Bend High School, has earned a place on the fall 2014 Deans Honor Roll at Fort Hays State University. She is a senior majoring in elementary education. The Deans Honor Roll includes undergraduate students only. To be eligible, students must have enrolled in 12 or more credit hours and have a minimum grade point average of 3.60 for the semester.
