Great Bend Library announces summer hours starting May 31
Great Bend Public Library will begin operating under summers at the end of the month. Effective May 31, the library will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays; 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursdays; and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays. It will be closed on Sundays. Regular hours will resume Sept. 6.

Preceptor Delta Zeta scholarships announced
Preceptor Delta Zeta Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi announces the recipients of this year's scholarships. Ellinwood High School seniors receiving the scholarships include: Rana Ahmadi, CJ Bookout, Jacob Christiansen, Montara Johansen, Derek Moos, Brittany Pflughoeft, Reba Thomas, and Brett Whelan. API scholarships
API offered two special scholarships this year to students majoring in either Geology or Engineering. API is trying to retain some students to graduate and work in the industry. The winners of these two scholarships were Anthony Cannata and Jonathan Schotte. These recipients were not required for one of their parents to be employed in the oil or gas industry.

Lessons from the land
For Kansans June, July and August are months when some of us return to our roots and visit family in rural communities across the state. Some go back to help with wheat harvest, others go home to spend time visiting with friends they have grown up with. For all it's a time to reflect and remember.

The annual reunion of the descendents of Adam and Clara (Hanslick) Hejny was held on June 2 at the Great Bend Recreation Center. A pot luck lunch was served. Hosts for the occasion were Leonard and Luanne French with help from cousins.
Barton Community College students named to President’s and Dean’s List for Spring 2013
Barton Community College has named 234 students to the President's List for the spring 2013 semester. To qualify for this honor, students must have been enrolled in a minimum of 12 credit hours and maintained a grade point average of 4.0 on a 4.0 or "A" letter scale.

USD 428 summer menu
USD 428 Great Bend School Food Service will offer the summer lunch program at Riley, Park, Eisenhower and Lincoln schools. The program will run from June 3 through June 27 (Monday through Thursday). Breakfast is served at Park and Riley only. There is no charge for anyone age 1 through 18. Sites are open to all children regardless of where they attend school. Parents may eat with their children for $3 for lunch or $2 for breakfast. All food must be consumed on site.
