Three seniors from Great Bend High School were recently awarded the Summerfield Scholarship and admitted into the University of Kansas Honors Program. The Scholars Recognition Reception took place on April 3 in Lawrence at the University of Kansas Campus in Hasinger Hall. The Heartland Cancer Center Cancer Support Group meeting will be held 2 p.m. onTuesday at the Heartland Cancer Center, 204 Cleveland. The meeting is open to all cancer survivors and their families. The Sterling College Biology Department was recently represented at the Kansas Academy of Science Annual Meeting held on April 8-9 in Baldwin City. Dear Editor, Anyone with any intelligence should know that raising the speed limit will only perpetuate the consumption of fuel. Most all new vehicles have a fuel mileage indicator and know that the faster they drive the more fuel the vehicle consumes. This is not a Republican vs. Democrat argument. Great Bend Middle School announces the April and May Above and Beyond Winners. Each of these students was nominated by their teachers because they have gone above and beyond the call of duty in becoming a good citizen of GBMS. Sunflower Bank Donates More Than $6,900 to Great Bend and Ellinwood Schools and Students
Wrapping up the 12th year of the annual ABC Program, Sunflower Bank contributed $6,910 to schools and students in the Great Bend and Ellinwood area. Since the inception of the ABC Program in 2001, Sunflower has contributed $52,038 to schools and students in the Great Bend and Ellinwood area.
Dean’s Honor Roll at NCK Tech announced
Commencement ceremonies for NCK Tech were held in Beloit on May 10th. Students achieving a 3.5 – 4.0 GPA earned Dean's Honor Roll academic honors during the ceremony. Area students recognized are: Carpentry-Cabinetmaking: John Kubick, Ellsworth and Richard Tice, Great Bend; Advanced Computer Information Technology: Nicholas Syx – Russell; Electrical Technology: Toby J Hubka– Wilson.
University team receives $9.6 million USDA grant to help develop solutions for beef cattle grazing s
Drought, flooding, extreme heat, subzero temperatures: All of these climatic events and more in Kansas can threaten the supply and affordability of the nation's beef supply. It's hard to do much about the weather, but a team of Kansas State University scientists will be trying to find solutions so cattlemen can better adapt to any future climate extremes in their grazing operations.
