County Commission will not meet next week

Due to the Barton County Commissioners attending the Kansas Association of County annual conference Oct. 29-31 in Wichita, the commission will not meet Monday, Oct. 28. The next meeting will be at 9 a.m. Monday, Nov. 4, at the courthouse.

Informational meeting set to help understand health care reform

Do you know how the new health care law will affect you? The Affordable Care Act (also known as health care reform or Obamacare) was passed into law in March 2010 and upheld by the Supreme Court in July 2012. Some provisions, like children staying on their parents´ insurance up to age 26 and prescription drug discounts to help close the "donut hole" for Medicare seniors, started immediately. However, the biggest changes under the Affordable Care Act are set to begin on Jan. 1, 2014.

Farmers Bank & Trust provides assistance to employees in order to help their children attain educational goals at the college of their choice. This year, the bank celebrates the 10th anniversary of the program and the fact that the bank has funded $62,000 in 123 scholarships to students of bank employees.
