GLADSTONE, Mo. - Velma Lorene Tiede, 85, died Jan. 13 at her home in Gladstone, Mo. She was born Dec. 18, 1925, at Verona, Mo., the daughter of Charlie and Maude (Browning) Shue. She married Richard E. Tiede on Dec. 8, 1947, at Eureka Springs, Ark. He died Oct. 28, 1976. She worked for Smith International as a secretary. Mrs. Tiede was a Gladstone resident for 16 years, coming from Great Bend, where she resided for 35 years.

M. "Joyce" Steiner

HOISINGTON - M. "Joyce" Steiner died Jan. 11 at McCrite Plaza Retirement Community, Topeka. She was born in Clarinda, Iowa, the daughter of Harry Isaac and Thelma (Kite) Brooks. She married James John Steiner May 7, 1976, at Hoisington. He died June 26, 1991. She worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone as a switchboard operator. She was a Topeka resident since 2009, coming from Hoisington.

Robert E. Lee Hartman Sr.

FRANKTOWN, COLO. - Robert E. Lee Hartman Sr., 88, died Jan. 2 at his rural home Franktown, Colo. Born April 3, 1922, on the family farm in South Bend Township, just south of Great Bend, he was the son of Edgar and Gertrude Wilson Hartman. He attended Barton County schools and was a 1938 graduate of Great Bend High School. He married Dorothy McCosh Petty on Oct. 8, 1948. She preceded him in death on June 20, 1996.
