Exercise for Parkinson's patients to be demonstrated at meeting

​BCC trustees to vote on gym floor, tuition, housing

The Barton Community College board of trustees will act on bids for the gym basketball court when it meets at 4 p.m. Tuesday in room F-30 of the Fine Arts Building. The board will also consider approving a $4 per credit hour increase in tuition and fees for all students, effective for the fall 2014 semester, and a notice of intent to build a new dorm that can hold 172 students.

​GBPL announces holiday events, teen movie

Great Bend Public Library, 1409 Williams St., will hold an After-Hours Celebration following the Home for the Holidays Parade on Saturday, Nov. 24. During this time the library will serve refreshments and have an hour of stories and crafts. People can also stop by to watch the holiday classic: "How the Grinch Stole Christmas." The library will remain open until 8:30 p.m.

'Holiday Tables Spectacular' ushers in festive season

Rosewood Furniture Gallery became a showplace of warm holiday cheer for the sixth straight year in an effort to help the Great Bend Beautification Committee raise funds to improve the community. The Holiday Tables Spectacular fundraiser was held Nov. 10 and 11 at the Gallery, located at 1607 Main, Great Bend. The annual event was a week later than usual and it was held for two days, rather than the customary single day. More than 100 people attended this year's Holiday Tables Spectacular.

GBHS Class of 1957

Great Bend High School Class of 1957 held their 55th reunion on Sept. 28, 29, and 30 at the Best Western Black Angus Courtyard. Sixty-eight classmates attended with over 110 people total in attendance. The time was spend visiting, sharing and making memories and paying tribute to their 60 deceased classmates.

Martin to present piano recital

Brenna Martin, St. John, will present a piano recital at 3 p.m. on Nov. 24, at the First United Methodist Church, 807 E. 1st Ave., St. John. The program, her junior recital, will consist of pieces from Beethoven, Bach and DeBussy. Light refreshments will be served following the recital.

Ella Marie Steitz 1934 - 2015

BISON - Ella Marie Steitz was born Jan. 9, 1934, in Bison in Rush County, the daughter of Jacob and Ella (Schaumburg) Scheuerman. She was adopted and raised by her parents, Constain and Florence (Scheuerman) Steitz. She graduated from Bison High School in 1952 and attended Fort Hays College. After living in Denver, Colo. for 31 years, she retired from Shell Chemical and returned to Bison in 1988.

The Kansas Chapter of Singles in Agriculture will host the 2015 National Convention in conjunction with the Mid-American Ag. Expo on March 26 to 28 in Salina. Headquarters will be at the Ambassador Hotel and convention Center in Salina. Singles in Agriculture will have a booth at the Ag Expo on March 26th.

The New Republican Tar Pits

It's kind of sad being forced to watch the death struggle of these modern-day dinosaurs. Responsible parents should keep their kids from peering over the Plexiglas railing into the tar pits below to see the huge lumbering antediluvian beasts frenziedly dig themselves deeper into the sticky morass that is gay marriage. Not a sight for the queasy or squeamish.

The Great Bend Panther bowling squads made an early departure from town on Saturday morning as they traveled to The Alley in Wichita for the 8 team Andover Tournament. In girls action it was sophomore Allie Brodrick who led the way with her team high 560 series. Following close behind was sophomore Kylynn Keeler with a 533 series, senior Abby Rose with a 515 series and senior Addie Soukup with a 514 series. The Lady Panthers finished in fourth place as a team. Brodrick's 560 series earned her a 5th place finish, Keeler's series earned her an 8th ...
