Moran sworn in as newest Kansas senator
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Senator Jerry Moran was officially sworn in today by Vice President Joseph Biden in the Senate Chamber of the U.S. Capitol, and was escorted by Senator Pat Roberts and Governor-elect Sam Brownback. Moran is replacing Governor-Elect Sam Brownback, who retired from the Senate.

Lenora E. Brack, 78, of Great Bend, died Jan. 3 at Woodhaven Care Center, Ellinwood. She was born May 4, 1932, at Tulsa, Okla., the daughter of George Wellington and Alice Julia (Miller) Foster. A Great Bend resident since 1998, coming from Hoisington, she was a homemaker.

Rape suspect arrested
The Barton County Sheriff's Office is investigating a report of a juvenile being raped, somewhere in the vicinity of Hart's Corner. A deputy and three Great Bend police officers were dispatched to the Central Kansas Medical Center Emergency Room at 5:11 p.m. Sunday, where the girl's father reported she had been raped.
Ellsworth woman dies in I-70 collision
An Ellsworth woman died in a two-vehicle accident Tuesday at the Hedville Road intersection with Interstate 70 in Saline County. Mary A. Donley, 82, was taken to Carlson-Geisendorf Funeral Home in Salina. The other driver, 18-year-old Austin Shane Nelson, 18, of Salina, was not injured. Both were wearing seat belts. ST. JOHN - Genevieve Scalzi Hull, 75, died Jan. 1 at her home in St. John. She was born Apr. 25, 1935, in Syracuse, N.Y., the daughter of Giovani Batist and Caroline (Santel) Scalzi. On Feb. 27, 1954, she married William Don Hull in Alhambra, Calif. A cooking supervisor for 25 years at St. John Schools, she had been a resident of St. John since 1962. She attended a dental trade school in California and Fort Hays State College, Hays.

ELLINWOOD - The Ellinwood Rotary Club announces the 2013 theme for the After Harvest Festival Parade to be held at 10 a.m. July 2. This year's theme is "Home Is Where Our Story Begins." They are hoping registrants for the parade will incorporate this year's theme into their parade float.
Heart Association declares GBRH Emergent Stroke Ready
Great Bend Regional Hospital has been documented as able to adequately care for a stroke patient brought to the facility, the American Heart Association and the Kansas State Stroke Task Force announced last Wednesday. GBRH was added to a list that already included Clara Barton Hospital in Hoisington as hospitals that provided the necessary documentation to be named as Emergent Stroke Ready as part of the Kansas Initiative For Stroke Survival (KISS).

Arthur Lewis Mostrom 1925 - 2013
BURDETT - Arthur Lewis Mostrom, 88, died May 8 at Larned Healthcare Center. Born March 16, 1925, in Spearville, he was the son of Clarence H. and Merion E. North Mostrom. On Aug. 17, 1952, he married Faye Schadel in Alexander. She survives. A longtime resident of Burdett, he was a retired mechanic and custodian.

Two Brown Mackie College occupational therapy assistant students spent four days last week involved with the equine therapeutic riding program at Rosewood Ranch. Yes I walked out of the council meeting. I should not have even sat there to begin with as I had told them I would not play their childish game and then I did. This was a planned rehearsed orchestrated attempt to discredit me with the voters. I wonder how many if not all of the council members discussed this with each other prior to the meeting.
