Rick and Kristen Walker announce the birth of their son, Gunner Clark Walker, on Oct. 20 in Lawrence. He weighed 9 lbs. 3 oz. and was 21 in. long.

Boley 55th
Mr. and Mrs. Joe Boley will celebrate their 55th wedding anniversary this Sunday. They were married on Dec. 26, 1955, in Wichita and moved to Great Bend in 1958 after living in Dorrance for three years. The two have been involved with music since their childhood and continue with numerous music activities in the Great Bend community. They have three daughters, Maggie McKain, Mary McMahan and JoAnn Ishmael; eight grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.
Meroney 50th
Jim and Millie Meroney of Great Bend celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Nov. 13 with a cake reception with family and friends. The couple celebrated early since they plan to celebrate their actual anniversary in Las Vegas.
Delta Tau Soroity
Members of the Delta Tau Soroity gathered on Dec. 14 for a time of Christmas celebration. They toured the festive homes of some of the club members and enjoyed appetizers and a dessert at the homes. The evening also involved the pledge ceremony of the new members of Delta Tau. In a candle lit ceremony, Stephanie Joiner of Great Bend and Rachel Sieker of Ellinwood officially became sisters of Delta Tau. It was a fun and joyous evening, and a warm welcome to the new members of Delta Tau.
Farris
Lacey Jo Moore and Hunter Ryan Farris were united in marriage on June 19 at the First Christian Church in Great Bend in a double ring ceremony officiated by the Rev. William Johnson. Parents of the couple are Lane and LaDonna Moore of Great Bend, Debbie McClain of Spring, Tx., and Neel and Karen Farris of Center, Tx.
City of Ellinwood holiday trash pick-up
Trash pickup for the City of Ellinwood for the week of December 26th will be Monday and Wednesday on the east side and Tuesday and Thursday on the west side due to the New Year's Day holiday.
Family Crisis Center receives $2,000 donation from Verizon Wireless for domestic violence prevention
Verizon Wireless announced today that it has donated $2,000 to Family Crisis Center, based in Great Bend, as part of the company's national HopeLine program, which is dedicated to assisting communities, local shelters and agencies in ending domestic violence. Family Crisis Center is one of 16 domestic violence prevention organizations in Kansas that will be receiving funds to support local education programs and shelter operations.

K-State wheat research leads to multi-state entomology grant
MANHATTAN – Kansas State University joins four other land-grant universities in sharing a three year, $1.9 million grant to study pest control methods, treatments and best management practices in wheat. The USDA's Risk Avoidance and Mitigation Program (RAMP) awarded the grant, which provides resources that allow scientists from the five institutions to complete their work.
Women reach new level of independence
Leanda Ditus and Iola Titsworth, who share their Great Bend home and their friendship, are now sharing the recognition of the Focus on Abilities award. Both women's background includes institutionalization but now they are enjoying a place of their own.
Anna Belle Owens
LARNED - Anna Belle Owens, 73, died Dec. 23 at Hays Medical Center in Hays. She was born May 17, 1937, in Shattuck, Okla. A resident of Larned since 1970, formerly of Woodward, Okla., she was a retired Food Service Supervisor 1 at the Larned State Hospital.

Arthur Lewis Mostrom 1925 - 2013
BURDETT - Arthur Lewis Mostrom, 88, died May 8 at Larned Healthcare Center. Born March 16, 1925, in Spearville, he was the son of Clarence H. and Merion E. North Mostrom. On Aug. 17, 1952, he married Faye Schadel in Alexander. She survives. A longtime resident of Burdett, he was a retired mechanic and custodian.

Brown Mackie students experience hippotherapy at Rosewood Ranch
Two Brown Mackie College occupational therapy assistant students spent four days last week involved with the equine therapeutic riding program at Rosewood Ranch. It's the second consecutive year that Rosewood Ranch has welcomed first-year OTA students from the Salina college to its award-winning therapeutic ranch so that the students can complete fieldwork required for their OTA practicum. Myers explains actions at meeting
Yes I walked out of the council meeting. I should not have even sat there to begin with as I had told them I would not play their childish game and then I did. This was a planned rehearsed orchestrated attempt to discredit me with the voters. I wonder how many if not all of the council members discussed this with each other prior to the meeting.

HOISINGTON -On April 29 and April 30, the Hoisington Middle School vocal group performed its play "School Daze" at Roosevelt and Lincoln Elementary Schools. The vocal group is made up of 7th and 8th grade students from Hoisington Middle School.
