A month-long celebration of Great Bend's Central Baptist Church quasquicentennial (125 years) culminated with a celebration held April 21-22 at the church, which has been located at Lakin and Harrison streets since 1964.
One Heart in the Heartland, a cultural festival of Midwestern music and dance, will precede the dedication of the new Kansas City Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormons) this weekend. The festival will be held from 6-7:30 p.m. Saturday at the Kansas City Municipal Auditorium, and the actual dedication of the temple will follow on Sunday.
Great Bend's 19th annual Cinco de Mayo Festival will take place Saturday in the courthouse square.

Barton Community College's 42nd commencement is set for 7 p.m. Thursday, May 10, in the Barton Gymnasium. College President Dr. Carl Heilman will present a welcome to the graduates, their families and friends to the ceremony.

Crime Stoppers of Barton County and Great Bend accepts anonymous tips that may help solve crimes or recover stolen property. On Saturday, Oct. 4, just after midnight, Great Bend Police officers responded to an alarm at L&M Contractors on K-96. A garage door was found open, and it was determined a Stihl chain saw, chop saw, chipping hammer, transit, angle grinder and a 14-inch saw were stolen. Loss was $6,700.

The Rosewood Rodeo turns a decade old this month. The annual event, which showcases horse riding abilities of people with developmental disabilities, originated in the fall of 2005 at the Indoor Riding Arena at Rosewood Ranch. Several years later, the event was moved to Great Bend Expo III, to accommodate the increased number of riders, family and other spectators who traditionally participate in daylong activities.
