HOISINGTON- Helen Maxine Barlow, 85, died June 18 at Christus Spohn Hospital in Corpus Christi, Texas. She was born Jan. 25, 1927 at Arkansas City, Kansas, the daughter of Ernest and Iola (Kincaid) Hilderbrandt. In 1950, she married E.C. "Dusty" Barlow in Arkansas. Helen was a Barton County resident since 1964. She moved to Texas in 2011 to be closer to her daughters.
CHASE - Sharon Kay Douglas, 62, of Chase died June 19 at Great Bend Regional Hospital. She was born Jan. 7, 1950 at Lyons, the daughter of Raymond Arthur and Nancy Elizabeth (Kelso) Gates.

He worked for North American Salt of Lyons and was a truck driver for C and P Electric, Branson, Snell, and Builders Transport.
LARNED - Gloria Dianne Youngdahl, 68, died June 17, at Hays Medical Center. Born Oct. 23, 1943, in Great Bend, she was the daughter of Glenn N. and Olive D. Smiley Johnson. She was a customer service representative in electronics.
DODGE CITY - Byron G. "Skip" Larson, 88, passed away on May 2.
KINSLEY - Bonnie M. Miller, 70, died June 15 at Pratt Hospice House. Born Sept. 23, 1941, in Great Bend she was the daughter of Lawrence E. and Evelyn C. Schauf Jacobs. On Aug. 8, 1959, she married Richard Miller in Dubuque. He died on July 8, 2000. She was a dietary manager.
KINSLEY - Minetta M. Carothers, 83, died June 16 at Medicalodge in Kinsley. Born May 29, 1929 ,in Spearville, she was the daughter of William E. and Minnie E. Diehl Berry. On June 22, 1947, she married Lee E. Carothers in Offerle. He died on Jan. 15, 2011. She was employed as a district secretary.

Great Bend will soon become an epicenter for thousands of gift-filled shoeboxes in support of Operation Christmas Child, the world's largest Christmas project of its kind. From a drop-off site based at Grace Community Church, for example, volunteers will be working to collect 17,600 gift-filled shoeboxes packed by caring Great Bend-area residents.
