She has four grandchildren, Andy (Jen) Kirkpatrick of Ellinwood, Ashley (Derek) Ohl of Manhattan, and TJ LaRocca and Lindsey (AJ) Campbell, all of Omaha, Neb.; and two great-grandchildren Madison Kirkpatrick of Ellinwood, and Oliver Campbell of Omaha, Neb.

Members of the Knights of Columbus Club in Great Bend are asking the public to help them raise funds to pave the parking lot at their club, 723 Main Street, which is used for numerous public events. There will be a fried chicken dinner at the club from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. this Sunday, Oct. 12. Cost is $10 for a dinner with all the trimmings. There will be free hot dogs for kids 5 and under, and to-go boxes are available.
CIMARRON - Johnna Franks, 65, died Oct. 8, at Western Plains Medical Complex in Dodge City. Born Nov. 1, 1948, in Independence, she was the daughter of Johnnie and Norma (Marlett) Carroll. She graduated high school in Fredonia. She was a convenience store manager for 30 years. On June 28, 1970, she married Larry Franks in Fredonia. She and Larry moved to Cimarron from Great Bend, and spent the last three years RVing full time. She enjoyed crossword puzzles and playing cards.
LA CROSSE - Viola Mae Yost, 99, passed away peacefully of natural causes on Oct. 7, at Locust Grove Village in La Crosse. Born Viola Mae Wimmer on July 25, 1915, in Harlan, she was the daughter of Harvey Lester and Mary Ann Zion Wimmer. She graduated from Portis High School, attended college at York College for two years, then finished her teaching education at Fort Hays State University. She enjoyed a long and successful teaching career to include Alexander (for 31 years), Nekoma, and Heizer. Additionally she served as a substitute teacher for McCracken and La Crosse.
