The Kansas Department of Transportation will have a survey team surveying US-56/K-96 through the city of Ellinwood starting the week of July 5, to plan for possible future roadway improvements. The survey work is expected to be complete in about four months on this 1.65 mile area. KDOT asks drivers to be alert to the presence of the survey crew and drive cautiously.
LARNED - The Santa Fe Trail Center will celebrate Independence Day on Monday, July 4 with a special preview of the interior renovation of the Frizell Railroad Depot on the Trail Center's grounds. The Atchison Topeka & Santa Fe Railroad Depot was relocated to the Santa Fe Trail Center from Frizell.

The Great Bend Public Library has been selected as a "Hometown Teams" partner site and will receive a grant of up to $1,500 to tell its local story of sports and community. GBPL will join 17 museums, historical societies, libraries, and community organizations across the state in researching and documenting local sports stories as part of the Kansas Humanities Council's "Hometown Teams" initiative.
