I am proud to announce that Carol Danielson is the new Administrative Assistant and Volunteer Coordinator for the RSVP program. Carol was born in Ellis County and grew up in Antonino near Hays. She married a Navy man from Hays and travelled all over before settling in San Diego. After his death in 1984, she stayed on in San Diego with her son and eventually married John Murphy. At 2 p.m. on Tuesday, April 10, the Kansas-based agencies of the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) will host a celebration for the 150th anniversary of the establishment of USDA. KWEC changes hours, days of operation

Beginning April 1, the days and hours of operation at the Kansas Wetlands Education Center will change. Previously, the KWEC has been closed on Mondays. Now, from April 1 through Oct. 31, the KWEC will be open on Mondays. Also, the opening time of the KWEC will be moved back one hour. GBHS Speech Team places 4th

At the Medicine Lodge Speech Tournament on Feb. 12, the Great Bend High School Speech Team qualified three more events to state. Becca Kay qualified to state in Original Oration by placing 2nd in the event. Hadley Murphy qualified in both Original Oration and Serious Solo Acting by placing 1st in both of the events. Sara Allen placed 6th in Original Oration and Becca Kay placed 5th Serious Solo Acting. "The team only brought four students and still placed 4th overall in sweepstakes out of 13 schools which is very impressive." stated GBHS speech coach Barbara Watson.
