Northwest Kansas Technical College announcese the Class of 2011 Commencement Ceremony. Northwest Kansas Technical College hosted the annual Commencement Ceremony on May 20 at the Max Jones Field House in Goodland, The Class of 2011 is the largest Northwest Tech graduating class in years with 158 graduating students from all over the nation.

Edward Hearn will celebrate his 80th birthday with a family dinner hosted by his family in Emporia. He was born on May 25, 1931 in Kingman. He graduated from Kingman High School in 1949 and served in the United States Navy from 1950 to 1954. In 1955, he married Wilhelmia Roedel in Sherman Oaks, Calif. He was the owner and operator of Hearn's Tree Service. Greg and Regina Stukey announce the birth of their daughter, Kinsly Jo Stukey, on Feb. 19 at Great Bend Regional Hospital. She weighed 8 lbs. 13 oz. and was 19 1/2 in. long. She has three big sisters, Jayden who is 8 1/2 years old, Jordyn who is 8 years old and Karley who is 6 years old.

O C McCrary will celebrate his 80th birthday on May 31. O C was born in a log cabin on Sugar Hill near Lincoln, Ark. to Doc and Zella McCrary. On Oct. 16, 1951, he married Wanza Lou Willis. The couple has six children, 16 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. A career with Halliburton took them to McPherson and Great Bend, where they raised their family. Since retiring to the Ozarks, he is devoted to his passionate love of the great outdoors and the catch of his life, his wife.
Loretta Morgenstern will celebrate her 90th birthday on May 31 with a card shower. A long-time resident of Hoisington, she was married to LeRoy Morgenstern on Feb.14, 1942. He died on Oct. 3, 1993. She has six children, 16 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.

Great Bend musicians and music educators Kurtis Koch and Steve Lueth will perform with The Diamonds Thursday night for the Golden Belt Community Concert Association's final concert of the season. On Tuesday, they traveled to Liberal to play with the legendary band in that community's concert series.

Chhitubhai K. Patel, 73, passed away on March 31, at the Hays Medical Center. Born April 29, 1940, in India, he was the son of Karshanbhai R. and Deviben K. Patel. In 1964, he was united in marriage to Bhagvatiben C. Patel. Mr. Patel farmed in India prior to coming to the United States and Jackson, Miss. in 1989, moving to Great Bend in 2011.

LACROSSE - Joel H. Ficken, 60, died March 29, at his home. Mr. Ficken was born April 14, 1953, in Ellis County, the son of Wayne R. and Victoria "Vicki" (Stremel) Ficken. He was a lifelong resident of Rush County. A 1971 graduate of LaCrosse High School, he was a farmer, and previously a Mountain Man Nut & Fruit Co. distributor. On Nov. 30, 2002, he married Debra S. "Deb" Burton at the United Methodist Church in Bison.
BELLA VISTA, Ark. - Maxine Wyatt, 86, passed away on March 29, at Highlands Health Care in Bella Vista. She was born June 14, 1927 to George and Margaret McCoy in Norton. She graduated from Norton High School and went to work for Southwest Bell Telephone Company. In 1947, she married Ray Wyatt. In 1953, they moved to Great Bend. She worked at American State Bank for 36 years and retired. She did volunteer work at Central Kansas Medical Center in Great Bend, and Eucharistic Minister at St. Patrick's Church.
