The Barton County Sheriff's Office received a report of an accidental shooting on the outskirts of Great Bend at 12:54 a.m. Tuesday.
Barton Community College will host a concert in honor of the upcoming 70th anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor and the recent 10 year anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, entitled, "In Remembrance," at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 21, in the Fine Arts Auditorium.
The Great Bend Recreation Commission will host a free program on the history of Cheyenne Bottoms at 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 18, at the Senior Center, 2005 Kansas Ave. Eric Giesing, an educator with the Kansas Wetlands Education Center and Fort Hays State University, will present a brief history of the Bottoms. Afterward, participants will be invited to share interesting stories of their lives while growing up in the Barton County area.

It is fitting that the 2014 World Food Prize, which Borlaug created, will be awarded on October 16 to a wheat researcher for the first time. And Dr. Sanjaya Rajaram is not just any wheat breeder - he was Borlaug's successor.
