Members of youth groups from Great Bend's Assembly of God Church entertain between heats during last Saturday's big Easter egg scramble on the Great Bend High School football field. Hundreds of plastic eggs were thrown onto the field for each age group.
The cast of "Waiting for the Parade" rehearses the D-Day scene, for the Great Bend Community Theatre production. Set in Calgary, Canada, the play takes place over the span of several years. It is the story of five women during World War II. The curtain goes up tonight at 8 at the Crest Theater. For ticket information call 620-792-GBCT (792-4228).

PAXICO - Lewis E. Massie, 87, died April 24 at the Colmery-O'Neil VA Medical Center in Topeka. Born June 3, 1923, at Highland County,Iowa, he was the son of John R. and Mary Hawk Massie. He was married to Vera Massie. She preceded him in death. He later married Andrea Diane Nienhuis. A resident of Kansas many years, he spent the past several years in Paxico. He had worked construction, was a truck driver and had owned and operated a service station.
Leaving aside anything made with powdered eggs (which don't really count as eggs at all in my book), I've never met an egg dish I didn't like. But at the tippy top of my list of favorites is the edible magic trick known as the souffled omelet.
Great Bend musicians and music educators Kurtis Koch and Steve Lueth will perform with The Diamonds Thursday night for the Golden Belt Community Concert Association's final concert of the season. On Tuesday, they traveled to Liberal to play with the legendary band in that community's concert series.

Chhitubhai K. Patel, 73, passed away on March 31, at the Hays Medical Center. Born April 29, 1940, in India, he was the son of Karshanbhai R. and Deviben K. Patel. In 1964, he was united in marriage to Bhagvatiben C. Patel. Mr. Patel farmed in India prior to coming to the United States and Jackson, Miss. in 1989, moving to Great Bend in 2011.

LACROSSE - Joel H. Ficken, 60, died March 29, at his home. Mr. Ficken was born April 14, 1953, in Ellis County, the son of Wayne R. and Victoria "Vicki" (Stremel) Ficken. He was a lifelong resident of Rush County. A 1971 graduate of LaCrosse High School, he was a farmer, and previously a Mountain Man Nut & Fruit Co. distributor. On Nov. 30, 2002, he married Debra S. "Deb" Burton at the United Methodist Church in Bison.
BELLA VISTA, Ark. - Maxine Wyatt, 86, passed away on March 29, at Highlands Health Care in Bella Vista. She was born June 14, 1927 to George and Margaret McCoy in Norton. She graduated from Norton High School and went to work for Southwest Bell Telephone Company. In 1947, she married Ray Wyatt. In 1953, they moved to Great Bend. She worked at American State Bank for 36 years and retired. She did volunteer work at Central Kansas Medical Center in Great Bend, and Eucharistic Minister at St. Patrick's Church.
