The Barton County Historical Museum and Village will conduct an Orientation Meeting at 1 p.m. on April 7 at the Village south of the river bridge on Highway 281. The meeting is for anyone in Barton County who seeks information about volunteer service at the museum. This meeting will help volunteers, new or returning, to become acquainted with life at the Village and to learn more about the new happenings and the many new displays at the museum.

There are many 'untold stories' about Great Bend Army Air Field during its brief, but very active, existence during World War II. One of those stories involves six young women, assigned to GBAAF as WASPs or Women Airforce Service Pilots. Karen Neuforth, Research Coordinator of the Barton County Historical Society, will tell that story at the regular meeting of the Society at 7:30 p.m. Monday. The Great Bend Public Library has been selected as a "Hometown Teams" partner site and will receive a grant of up to $1,500 to tell its local story of sports and community. GBPL will join 17 museums, historical societies, libraries, and community organizations across the state in researching and documenting local sports stories as part of the Kansas Humanities Council's "Hometown Teams" initiative.
