ELLINWOOD - C. Loaine (Haines) Perry, 90, formerly of Arkansas City, died June 19 at the Ellinwood District Hospital. Born Aug. 13, 1920, in Newton, she was the daughter of George M. and Sylvia I. (Church) Haines. She was reared and educated in Potwin and El Dorado, graduating from El Dorado High School in 1938. She married John Patten and later D.J. Perry. The couple made their home all over Kansas and for 15 years in Missouri before moving to Winfield in 1992 and Arkansas City in 1997. She was a machinist for Boeing, a seamstress, and did house cleaning.
WICHITA - Ann Wesley Van Winkle, 75, arrived in Heavan on June 15. Born Jan. 22, 1936, in Great Bend, she was the daughter of Ralph and Isbell (Moses) Wesley.
Two dogs will visit the Great Bend Public Library today for a Summer Reading Program activity. Pam Jones, animal control officer from the City of Hays, will bring her therapy dogs Hank and Jacques at 2 p.m. to teach children about dogs.

The Kansas Bandmasters Association has announced that Sarah (Reif) Bricker, formerly of Hoisington, is the recipient of the 2011 Outstanding Young Bandmaster Award. The award is presented annually by Phi Beta Mu and the Kansas Bandmasters Association to a young director who has taught for less than seven years. She will be recognized on July 15 during the annual Kansas Bandmasters Association Convention in Wichita.
The city of Hoisington plans to spray for mosquitoes on Thursday and Saturday, weather permitting. The city will spray periodically and will not always be able to specify a date or time, according to a news release from the city. Weather conditions will also affect spraying times.

ELLINWOOD - Lincoln Paul Tschopp, 78, died Aug. 17, at his home in Ellinwood. Born on Feb. 12, 1936, in Winfield, he was the son of Frederick and Cleoa (Pishney) Tschopp of Udall. He graduated as the first four sport letterman from Udall High School and holds degrees from both BCCC and Friends University in Wichita. After the 1955 Udall tornado destroyed his hometown, Paul enlisted in the United States Army and served in the Special Weapons Command. On April 4, 1975, he married Lillian Milberger in Wichita. GREAT BEND, Kan. (AP) - A memorial fund has been set up for the children of a Reno County jail deputy and his wife who died in a motorcycle crash during the weekend.
