ELLINWOOD - Wayne Simien, former University of Kansas basketball standout, will be at Ellinwood Schools on Tuesday, Oct. 23, to speak with students. Mr. Simien received All American honors his junior and senior years at KU and was the BIG 12 Player of the Year his senior year. At 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 25, the GBHS Orchestra will perform its fall concert in the high school auditorium. Featured selections are themes from the master choral work "Gloria" by Antonio Vivaldi and the "Peer Gynt Suite No. 1" by Edvard Grieg. The program will also include a lively "Irish Reel," the bombastic "Toccatina" of William Hofeldt, and a spooktacular piece inspired by classic zombie movies that will be frightening as well as entertaining.

TOPEKA – Following a nationwide search, the Kansas State Board of Education today announced its selection of Dr. Randy Watson, Superintendent of McPherson Unified School District 418, to become Kansas' next Commissioner of Education. Watson replaces Dr. Diane DeBacker who resigned her position earlier this year to serve as senior advisor to the Director General of the Abu Dhabi Education Council.
