Great Bend Expo III arena will be filled with rodeo family fun in mid-October, all with no admission fee. The public can enjoy children's activities, face painting, Randy the Clown, concessions and three performances of drill-teams on horseback. It happens during the 9th Annual Rosewood Rodeo Oct. 12 at the Great Bend Expo III Arena, two miles west of 10th and Patton.
The Shafer Art Gallery, in conjunction with the Kansas Wetlands Education Center, will host an opening reception for its first ever national juried exhibit "Choreography of Cranes," from 1-3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 6. The exhibit will also feature the work of the show's juror; renowned wildlife artist Peter Eades.
Barton Community College art students Leona Kasselman and Deb Clothier will have selections of their art in the Fine Arts Building display cases from now until December. The display cases are located in the lobby of the Fine Arts building.
Sister Mary Ann Klein (Sister Mary James), 88, died Oct. 4, in the Catholic Care Center in Wichita. Born Dec. 4, 1924, in Fowler, Sister Mary Ann was the daughter of Jacob and Anna Hoffman Klein. She entered the Dominican Sisters in Great Bend on March 17, 1940, and pronounced her first vows Aug. 13, 1943. She celebrated 70 years of religious profession earlier this year. Sister Mary Ann began her ministerial life as a teacher in parochial elementary schools in Odin, Willowdale, La Crosse, and Clonmel. Dr. Catherine Strecker of Ellinwood will be presenting a program called "Building Resiliency in Children" at Butler Community College, Child Start 1002 S. Oliver, from 9-11 a.m. on Oct. 5. The cost of the program is $15 if registered by Oct. 3. Cost at the door is $20.
