The following meals will be served March 25 through March 28. The secondary schools also have available daily: Main dish second choices, chef's salad, combo lunches and choice of vegetables and dessert. The breakfast menu is offered only to students in USD 428. Menus are subject to change without notice. Milk served with all meals. All meals as offered meet USDA nutritional guidelines.

The Drought Is Over – Right?

We all know the answer to the title of this article is no. However, the reaction of some media outside of Kansas and other drought stricken areas implied that at the very least the worst is over. While that isn't true, things are a bit better. Our area has moved from the worst rating, exceptional, to the second worst rating, extreme. This is true of much of central Kansas. USD 428 Board of Education meeting

USD 428 Board of Education will meet at noon on Tuesday at Lincoln Elementary School, 5630 Broadway. Items on the agenda include, Principal Art Baker requesting approval to apply for a Kansas Cosmosphere and Space Center School Field Trip Transportation Grant for Jefferson Elementary School; and certified teacher retirement and certified teacher resignations. Lincoln Elementary School Principal Misty Straub and other staff members will share information regarding the academic programs and the school improvement efforts at Lincoln.

Angela Kay Barney of Chase and David Justin Hawkins of Potosi, Mo. were united in marriage on March 9 at the First Street Church of God in Hoisington in a double ring ceremony officiated by Brian Fry. Mother of the bride is Sandy Leuer of Cedar Falls, Iowa. Parents of the groom are David Hawkins of Potosi, Mo. and Laurie and Doug Isenhart of French Village, Mo.

Celestine Jabos 90th

Celestine W. Jacobs will celebrate his 90th birthday on March 29th with a card shower. Born in 1923 in Hoisington, he is the son of Casper and Mary (Schmidt) Jacobs. On May 20, 1947, he married Thelma Herrman. They were married 60 years when Mrs. Jacobs died in 2007. He worked for the Rush County Highway Department for 39 years until his retirement. His children are Raymond Jacobs and wife Marsha, Paula Kuhn and husband Jed and Duane Jacobs, all of Great Bend, and Kenneth Jacobs and wife Connie of Catawissa, Mo. He has eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
