IRS Suspends LIHTC rules to allow owners to house tornado victims

On May 20, 2013, the President issued a major disaster declaration for the State of Oklahoma because of the devastation caused by the tornadoes. Subsequently, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) designated jurisdictions for Individual Assistance. Because of the damage to housing caused by the tornadoes, the IRS has determined that state housing agencies may provide approval to project owners in their respective states to provide temporary emergency housing for displaced individuals in accordance with IRS Notice 2013-40. Be Well Barton County receives grant from KHI’s Healthy Communities Initiative

Be Well Barton County, a advisory group dedicated to promoting healthy lifestyles countywide, has been awarded an implementation grant through the Kansas Health Foundation's Healthy Communities Initiative worth up to $75,000 over the next three years. Be Well, one of 12 grantees in the state to receive this funding, will use the funds in support Complete streets and Safe Routes to school, nationally recognized programs that encourage local governments to consider bicycle and pedestrian traffic when planning street and sidewalk improvements..

Georgia J. Crosley 1938 - 2013

Georgia J. Crosley, 75, passed away on Saturday afternoon, June 15, at Cherry Village Residential Care in Great Bend. Georgia was born on June 1, 1938 at Mountain View, Ark. to Harvey Andrew and Tolva Leona (Finch) Chatman, and had been a resident of Great Bend since 1992. In addition to being a homemaker, she provided in-home caregiver services for the past ten years to a number of individuals.

Kay George 1946 - 2013

LA CYGNE - Kay George, 66, passed away June 12 at her home. Born on Dec. 4, 1946 in Parsons, she was the daughter of William and Ava Kinne George. Kay graduated from Emporia State Teachers College receiving her Masters in Mathematics. She taught briefly in Alma before moving to La Cygne where she taught for 32 years at the Prairie View High School, teaching math and computers. She was also a cheerleader sponsor, Senior Class sponsor, and served as a school board member for USD 362.
