ST. JOHN - Dorotha M. "Dody" Curtis, 93, died Nov. 22 in Stafford. Born Jan. 5, 1918, at St. John, she was the daughter of Nicholas E. and Mabel C. (Aleshire) Baker. She graduated from St. John High School in 1936. On Aug. 6, 1936, she married Robert George Curtis at El Reno, Okla. He preceded her in death. A lifetime resident of St. John, she was a homemaker.
Barton Community College student ambassador Reba Hickel makes a phone call to one of the BCC Foundation's many generous donors Monday evening. Hickel and seven other ambassadors spent their evening making the calls as part of the organization's annual Thank-a-Thon, where donors are simply thanked for their generosity to, and support for, Barton Community College and its students.

A rural Barton County man sustained possible injury Wednesday morning after the 2000 Nissan Xterra he was driving went off the road in the 300 block of NW 20 Ave. J.B. Slater told dispatch the air bags had deployed, he had chest pains from the accident and he was unable to get out of the vehicle.
An attempted fraud was reported to the Barton County Sheriff's Office on Tuesday. Someone called a Barton County resident saying her grandson was in trouble in New Mexico and needed help. The woman hung up before finding out what kind of "help" was wanted, and instead called her grandson, who said he was fine.

Star of Hope is proud to announce the dedication of the new church building in Hesse, Haiti. The original church building was rendered useless and unsafe by the 2010 earthquake that devastated Haiti. On June 28, more than 250 people gathered in the new mountain church to dedicate it to the use of the people in the area. The church is located next to the new Hesse School also rebuilt since the 2010 earthquake. In addition to being used for church services it will also be used by the school for assemblies.
