Arnie and Arlene Keil will celebrate their 60th anniversary with a reception from 2 to 4 p.m. on June 25 at St. Mark Lutheran Church Fellowship Hall, 2101 Jackson in Great Bend. Hosts for the event will be their children, Kathy Price of Salina, and Kevin and Donna Keil of Great Bend; four grandchildren, Leslie and David Foos of Salina, Krista and Eugene Lee of Houston, Texas, and Andrea and Travis Thompson and Spencer Keil, all of Great Bend; and four great-grandchildren, Daxton Foos, Lexi Foos, Emma Thompson and Tristan Thompson.
August and Vada Freund will celebrate their 60th anniversary on June 18 with a dinner.
The Scheuerman family reunion was held on June 5, at the Rush Center City Hall. There were 25 in attendance from the Conrad and Henry Scheuerman families. Marguerite Anna Davidson will celebrate her 90th birthday with an open house reception from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. on June 26, at the First Christian Church, 5230 Broadway, Great Bend. Hostess for the event will be Louise Gunn and Caron Zager, both of Great Bend and her good fiends. Marguerite requests no gifts for the event just fellowship with her friends and family.
Unless the weather decides to turn wet and cold, wheat harvest should be in full swing when you read this. As expected, yields have been all over the place so far in our fair state, ranging from a few bushels to 40 bushels or more per acre. Several fields in Stafford County were in the 50 bushel range. So far test weights have been over 60 pounds per bushel and protein levels over 12%. So while the yields aren't great, the quality appears good and the price holding. Now the trick is to bring in the crop before rain ...
On May 13, Dickson Oklahoma Public Schools named Jeff Parsons the 2011-2012 "Teacher of the Year" for the district. Parsons was nominated for this award by his fellow teachers. He has taught 3rd and 5th grade at Dickson Upper Elementary for the last four years. Parsons is a 1990 graduate of Great Bend High School.

The Great Bend Beautification Committee recently completed their latest project at the Great Bend Public Library. The upper lawn level on the east side of the library has been beautifully landscaped to include three new bronze statues.
Great Bend, resident Leslie Wrinkle, a nursing major, was named to Oklahoma Baptist University's Dean's Honor Roll for the spring 2011 semester.

The Great Bend Recreation Commission will offer an American Red Cross lifeguard certification course March 16-21 at the Barton Community College pool. GBRC offers the ARC Water Park Lifeguard training class. This class includes CPR for the professional rescuer, AED, and first aid. This is a 24-31-hour course.
