The USD 428 Board of Education will meet at 5 p.m. on Monday at the Great Bend High School Library. Items on the agenda include updated information on the district's Shady Grove property, Board of Education representatives for the Great Bend Recreation Board, and Kansas Assessments update.
Barton County 4-H members were honored for their accomplishments at the 77th annual 4-H Achievement Celebration. The theme was "Blue Jeans and Country Dreams". Gracie Brantley, 4-H Council President served as the emcee. Drew Reisner, 4-H Council Vice President led the members in the Flag Salute and 4-H Pledge.

Great Bend will soon become an epicenter for thousands of gift-filled shoeboxes in support of Operation Christmas Child, the world's largest Christmas project of its kind. From a drop-off site based at Grace Community Church, for example, volunteers will be working to collect 17,600 gift-filled shoeboxes packed by caring Great Bend-area residents.

Kans for Kids Fighting Cancer Foundation announced Wednesday that all of the $215,000 in tax credits awarded to the organization by the Kansas Department of Commerce earlier this year have been purchased and will allow the organization to contribute $300,000 to Barton Community College toward the rebuilding of the Camp Aldrich conference center/dining hall that was lost in a fire early in 2014.
