Baylor University Law School confers degrees upon graduates

Baylor Law School held its winter commencement on Feb. 4 at First Baptist Church, Waco, Texas. Professor Matt Cordon delivered the commencement speech. Dustin Troy Lucas, the highest ranking student in the graduating class, delivered student remarks. Hooding the graduates were David Guinn, Master Teacher and the Lyndon L. Olson and William A. Olson Professor of Local Government and Constitutional Law, and James Wren, associate professor of law. Brittney Denise Johnson, who received her law degree during commencement, delivered the invocation.

Church rummage sale Saturday

Great Bend's Presbyterian Women will hold their annual Rummage Sale from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday, April 11, in the church Fellowship Hall at 24th and Washington. Funds raised by the rummage sale are contributed by Presbyterian Women to local charities and service organizations as well as to national and world-wide missions. A wide-variety of minimally priced useful items in good condition will be for sale.

Mary Jane Wells 1925 - 2015

Mary Jane Wells, 89, died April 4, at Great Bend Health and Rehabilitation Center. Born Dec. 16, 1925, in Fort Scott she was the daughter of James L. and Lillie Mae (Chambers) Parker and was later adopted by Ruth Chidester Noggle. She attended school in St. John and later in Russell, where she graduated from in 1943. On June 1, 1943, she married Wayne Ingalls Grippin. They later divorced. She then married Joseph B. Wells. He died on June 5, 1999. A resident of Great Bend since 1992, coming from Russell, she was a homemaker. She enjoyed sewing, crossword puzzles ...

Merlin Thomas Stang 1948-2015

ELLSWORTH - Merlin Thomas (Thom) Stang, 66, passed away March 26 at his home in Ellsworth. Thom was born to Albert and Anita Stang on August 7, 1948 in Marysville. He was raised in Victoria and was part of their graduating class of 1966. Thom was drafted and served the U.S. Army at Fort Bliss, Texas. In 1972, he married Ruann Kuntzsch. He completed training and was certified in printing at Salina Area Technical College.

Baseball splits West series at Garden

Cougars split conference series at GC

GARDEN CITY- The Barton Community College baseball team concluded their four-game series in Garden City with a split Saturday to earn a series split with Garden City Community College. The Broncbusters took both the seven inning contests by 12-2 and 10-4 scores while the Cougars took the nine inning nightcaps each day 5-3 and 14-9. The series leaves Barton at 10-10 in the Jayhawk West and 18-19 on the season while Garden City stands at 14-10 and 24-16.
