With the theme "Superheroes in our Community," the United Way of Central Kansas will host its annual Kickoff Event on Aug. 15th. Think Clark Kent, Superman Theme and "Truth, Justice, and the United Way."

City Council meets Monday night

The Great Bend City Council will meet at 7:30 p.m. Monday at the City Office, 1209 Williams. The agenda includes a street closure request for Party in the Park, an update on the Tot Spot play area, at Barbara Bushnell Memorial Fund presentation and approval of airport grant applications.

Commission to hold Monday morning meeting

The Barton County Commission will meet at 9 a.m. Monday at the Barton County Courthouse, 1400 Main in Great Bend. The agenda includes the K-4 scenic overlook east of Hoisington and the Kansas Association of Counties annual conference in November.

County to recognize breastfeeding efforts

World Breastfeeding Week, Aug. 1-7, is a time to recognize that breastfeeding provides ideal nutrition for infants and contributes to their healthy growth and development, said Janel Rose with the Barton County Health Department. That is why local health departments have banded together as partners of Central Kansas Breastfeeding Coalition to further highlight its theme for 2015, "Breastfeeding and Work - Let's Make it Work."
