Holy Family School's annual Christmas program starts at 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 12, at the Prince of Peace Parish Center, 4100 Broadway Ave. The school's Christmas tradition continues with songs by children in grades K-4, followed by a musical by fifth and six graders.

After losing the Virginia governor's race because single women voted for the Democrat by a margin of 42 points, Republicans have found the solution. They will teach their candidates how to, in Speaker John Boehner's words, "be a little more sensitive" to the ladies. But Republicans painting over policy differences with pretty words piles insult on top of offense and will do little to close the gender gap.
For 50 years, Larry Schugart served the Great Bend area both as a banker and a community leader. In banking, assets are normally defined in dollars and cents. Now retired from banking, Schugart is proof that tireless volunteerism, community involvement and leadership are all critical assets to the community.

This week was a hard one. I lost one more pound since last week's column (up to 22 of the 40 I set out to lose).
