Buc up! Pirates, Reds punch NL playoffs tickets

The Pittsburgh Pirates and Cincinnati Reds punched their postseason tickets on Monday night, so all five National League spots have been secured. The only thing left to sort out is the winner of the NL Central. Over in the AL, three of the five berths remain up for grabs. A quick look at baseball's playoff picture:

Overlay on US-28, K-4 set to begin

Starting around Monday, Sept. 30, the Kansas Department of Transportation will begin an asphalt paving project on U.S. 281 Highway, from the City of Hoisington continuing west approximately 4.5 miles; and K-4 Highway, from the east junction of U.S 281/K-4 highways in Hoisington continuing east to the Barton/Rice county line.

Singles in Agriculture annual meeting

The Kansas Chapter of Singles in Agriculture annual meeting will be held Sept. 27-29 in Great Bend. On Friday morning the Kansas Chapter of Singles In Agriculture will take a guided tour of Fort Larned, then visit the Little Red House/ Sibley's Camp. After lunch they will tour the Santa Fe Trail Center and then Pawnee Rock. Saturday morning they will tour the Kansas Oil and Gas Museum. In the evening there will be a dinner and dance.
