GBHS Speech Team already qualifies for State Championship Tournament

The Great Bend High School Forensics team traveled to the Kingman Invitational Forensics tournament on Jan. 26th. Four members competed in two events in the first tournament of the season, which consisted of (freshman) Clara Kachanes, (sophomore) Sarah Keller, (senior) Chase Pumford, and (sophomore) Kameko Schultz. All three students that competed in Humorous Solo Acting, qualified to finals. Placing 1st was Chase Pumford, placing 5th was Sarah Keller, and placing 6th was Kameko Schultz. James Jonathan (Jim) Teeter 1968 - 2013

WINDOM - James Jonathan (Jim) Teeter, 44, of Windom die on Jan. 24 in rural McPherson. Born on Aug. 16, 1968 in Lindsborg, he was the son of Billie J. (Buffington) and James A. Teeter. He attended the Marquette grade schools and Marquette High school and graduated from Little River High School in 1986. He then attended Fort Hays State University. On Sept. 12, 1992 he was united in marriage to Jo Davenport in Great Bend. He was employed by Wear Tech in shipping and receiving in McPherson.

​Seventh-day Adventist School taking frozen berry orders

The Great Bend Seventh-day Adventist Elementary School is placing the spring order for frozen fruit from the Bithell Farms in Oregon. Place orders by Feb. 25 and the fruit will arrive in late March or early April. Available are Marion blackberries, red raspberries, boysenberries, blueberries, strawberries which are sliced and sugared, strawberries whole without sugar, loganberries, red pie cherries, dark sweet cherries, peaches, apricots, apples and red rhubarb. Also available are freezer jam and purees.

Wrestling results for Hoisington High School for C.K.L. tournament

The Hoisington Wrestling team came as close as a team can come in not winning a team championship at the Central Kansas League tournament hosted by Hoisington this past Saturday. The team lost by just a mere 1/2 point to Smoky Valley High School. Making it even tougher on the Cardinals was that they had the fire power to have won the tournament, if they had been able to be at full strength. Former GBHS wrestler qualifies for NJCAA Wrestling Nationals

Former Great Bend High School wrestler Zachary Schridde qualified for the National Junior College Athletic Association Wrestling Nationals in the 133-pound weight class. Schridde placed fourth for the Pratt Beavers on Feb. 14, at the West Central District Regionals hosted by Colby Community College. Eight colleges participated including colleges from Oklahoma and Arkansas. Pratt Community College Beavers qualified a total of seven of their nine wrestlers for the National Tournament on Feb. 27-28, held in Des Moines, Iowa. The Pratt Beavers are coached by Ken Kepley.
