DODGE CITY - Congressman Tim Huelskamp announced Thursday he had nominated Bryce Divis to attend the U.S. Naval Academy, the U.S. Air Force Academy and the U.S. Military Academy. Divis is the son of Stephen and Dixie Divis.

Sylvester F. "Sonny" Urban 1930 - 2013

LIEBENTHAL - Sylvester F. "Sonny" Urban, 82, died Jan. 23 at Locust Grove Village in La Crosse. Born Aug. 7, 1930, in rural Rush County, he was the son of Stephen S. and Paulina (Dater) Urban. In 1949 he graduated from Schoenchen High School. On June 2, 1956, he married Dorothy Ann Herrman at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Liebenthal. She preceded him in death on Nov. 23, 1978. A lifelong resident of Rush County, he was the owner and operator of Sonny's Tavern in Liebenthal, until his retirement.

Michelle Dunn-Heggemeier 1973 - 2013

HOISINGTON - Michelle Dunn-Heggemeier, 39, died Jan. 22 at her home in Hoisington. Born March 28, 1973, in Great Bend, she was the daughter of Jack T. and Janet Kay (Mullen) Dunn Jr. On Dec. 1, 1996 she married Danny Chapman in Great Bend. On Oct. 9, 2010, she married Justin Eugene Heggemeier in Great Bend. He died on Jan. 22, 2013. A longtime resident of Great Bend, she was a former manager for Burger King, general manager of the Flyover Cafe in Susank and was a Mary Kay salesperson. She enjoyed raising an assortment of pets and farm animals.

Marylyn Ann Scheuerman 1931 - 2013

WICHITA - Marylyn Ann Scheuerman, 81, passed away on Jan. 21 in Wichita. Born Oct. 4, 1931, in Great Bend, she was the daughter of Harry and Rose Mausolf. In March 1950 she met and married Elmer Scheuerman. She was employed in medical insurance billing for various doctors in Wichita. She later became a volunteer with Victory In The Valley.

Huelskamp adds BCC stop to town hall list

DODGE CITY - In addition to the six town halls previously announced for the week of Jan. 28, Congressman Tim Huelskamp will also host a town hall meeting in Barton County on Tuesday, Jan. 29. The one-hour meeting will start at 10:30 a.m. in the Seminar Room, F-30 of the Fine Arts Building at Barton Community College.

BCC parking lot bids on Monday's agenda

Replacing three parking lots at Barton Community College will cost more than half a million dollars, and awarding the bid for that project is on the agenda for the next BCC Board of Trustees meeting. The meeting is set for 4 p.m. Monday, Jan. 28, in the Seminar Room, F-30 of the Fine Arts Building on the campus.

The Sons of the American Legion will hold a hamburger and brat feed from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Monday, April 6, at the Argonne American Legion Post 180, 1011 Kansas Ave. in Great Bend. Hamburgers and brats will be available for $5 each for members and guests. Proceeds will support the Sons of the American Legion's programs such as child welfare and the Kansas Soldiers' Home at Fort Dodge.
