​Speaker to explain Medicare changes

Rick Schaffer from the South West Area Agency on Aging will share the latest information on Medicare during a free program at 1 p.m. Friday at the Great Bend Senior Center, 2005 Kansas Ave. The Great Bend Recreation Commission will host this free program. GBRC Program Coordinator Megan Hammeke said Schaffer will discuss Medicare and all the new changes that have occurred.

Exercise classes taking enrollments

The Great Bend Recreation Commission is forming fall exercise classes, Program Coordinator Garet Fitzpatrick said. Classes got underway this week and will run through Nov. 22. All classes are held at the Great Bend Activity Center, 2715 18th St.

Landscaping project

A small fountain has been added to the front of the Barton County Detention Center. Sheriff Brian Bellendir said a trusty dug and lined a pool and installed a pump using a "junk" fountain on hand at the Administrative Building. "No tax dollars were used," Bellendir said.

Rossie Mae Lauber 1942 - 2013

Rossie Mae Lauber, 71, died Oct. 1 at her home in Great Bend. Born May 23, 1942 in Great Bend, she was the daughter of Eugene Debbs and Okla Marie (Dixon) Addington. In 1961, she married Lawrence Fredrick Rowe in Miami, Okla. They later divorced. She then married Virgil Lewis in 1971 in Great Bend. They later divorced. She then married Wilfred Patrick Lauber Sr. on Aug. 24, 1979 in Great Bend. He died on March 11, 2005. A lifetime resident of Great Bend, she was a homecare worker for the State of Kansas.
