Retirement reception set for Judge Kitts

A retirement reception for Twentieth Judicial District Judge Hannelore Kitts will be held from 2-4 p.m. Friday, Jan. 11, in Courtroom B at the Barton County Courthouse. Kitts has served as a district judge for 17 years. The district includes Barton, Ellsworth, Rice, Russell and Stafford counties.

BCC trustees will discuss future property acquisition

The Barton Community College Board of Trustees will be talking about property acquisition during a special meeting on Thursday afternoon. The preliminary discussion on real estate is being held in executive session to protect the public interest in obtaining a fair price. Changing the date of the board's January business meeting is also on the agenda.

Seventh-day Adventists celebrate grand opening, consecration service

The Seventh-day Adventist congregation is celebrating the grand opening of its newly constructed sanctuary located at the corner of 10th Street and SW 30th Ave. (one mile west of 10th and Patton Road) this Saturday, Jan. 5. The Sons of the American Legion will hold a hamburger and brat feed from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Monday, April 6, at the Argonne American Legion Post 180, 1011 Kansas Ave. in Great Bend. Hamburgers and brats will be available for $5 each for members and guests. Proceeds will support the Sons of the American Legion's programs such as child welfare and the Kansas Soldiers' Home at Fort Dodge.

​Leona Winterlin 1931 - 2015

HAYS - Leona Winterlin, 83, formerly of Hays, died Thursday, April 2, 2015, at the Sterling House in Great Bend. She was born in 1931 in Shickley, Nebraska, the daughter of Dan and Elsie (Birkey) Roth. She married DeWayne Winterlin on Aug. 21, 1954, in Iowa City, Iowa. He died June 20, 2000. She attended Wheaton College and Moody Bible Institute. She was an LPN and worked as a nurse at the University of Iowa Hospital and later at nursing homes in Kansas.
