Golden Belt Community Foundation accepting grant applications for March

The Golden Belt Community Foundation invites proposals for its upcoming competitive grant cycle. Applications now are being accepted from qualified 501(c)(3) non-profit organizations and public institutions, including schools, government entities, and clubs and civic/community organizations in Barton, Pawnee, Rush, and Stafford counties. Funds are available primarily for the health and well being of youth; however, limited funds are available in many other categories.

Barton County producer attends KLA Leadership Conference

Evan Cooper of Great Bend attended the Kansas Livestock Association (KLA) Leadership Conference in Topeka. He was among 15 producers to participate in the event, which is designed to expose attendees to services provided by KLA and the National Cattlemen's Beef Association, the legislative process, industry advocacy and various aspects of beef marketing.

Volunteers in Action

RSVP has received a grant from the Kansas Volunteer Commission to expand into a full service volunteer center that works with volunteers of all ages. RSVP will maintain a separate identity for the over age 55 volunteers and the new Volunteer Connections will recruit and manage volunteers under age 55. We are in the process of hiring a part time person to coordinate this new program and plan to be up and running soon. Crop Science 101 – Part 2

Last week's column discussed temperature and what it means for crop growth. This week will focus on moisture. While temperature determines the area of crop adaption, moisture determines the potential for growth and yield potential. However, it is not as simple as the amount of precipitation an area receives yearly and involves other factors besides rain or snow. And we are discussing the long-term average precipitation, not just one or two years.
