Janice Ulrich 1941 - 2013

HAYS - Janice Ulrich, 71, died Jan. 13 at Woodhaven Care Center in Ellinwood. Born Dec. 20, 1941 in New Rockford, N.D., she was the daughter of George and Evelyn (Olson) Caley. On Dec. 28, 1973 she married George Ulrich in Russell. He died on Jan. 14, 1997. A resident of Hays since 1974, coming from Russell, she was a homemaker.

Great Bend Farm Equipment and FFA Award Scholarship to local FFA member

Great Bend Farm Equipment today announced they are partnering with John Deere and FFA to award a college scholarship to a local FFA member. This is the inaugural year of the John Deere Dealer Scholarship Program, which is administered by The National FFA Organization. The program will award up to $250,000 in local scholarships annually.

Spreading Holiday Cheer

During the holiday season, Dawson Jewelers Designs By Dana and Great Bend Regional Hospital teamed up to help brighten the day for patients receiving cancer treatment. Dawson Jewelers donated $2,000 to Great Bend Regional Hospital for the hospital to distribute directly to patients. Gift Certificates and poinsettias were purchased to present to patients receiving care.

Manhattan Area Technical College commencement

Manhattan Area Technical College held its spring commencement exercises on Dec. 14, at the Hilton Garden Inn in Manhattan. Bruce Snead, Director of Engineering Energy Extension at K-State and former mayor of Manhattan, delivered the commencement address to 80 graduates in 10 programs of study. MATC awarded 56 associate of applied science degrees and 24 graduates received technical certificates.
