CLAFLIN - Future children of Barton County that receive a diagnosis of cancer will be the beneficiaries of the 7th Annual Fall Fun Festival. The birthday wish of Kylee Kasselman for her 8th birthday back in 2006 was, rather than having a birthday party, to have a fall festival at her parent's farm to raise money for Kans for Kids Fighting Cancer Foundation.

Council committee to discuss insurance consultant

The first meeting of the Great Bend City Council Health Insurance Independent Consultant Selection Committee will take place at 2 p.m. Monday at the City Office. The meeting is open to the public. At its Sept. 4 meeting, the council voted to study hiring a consultant to help the city in bidding its insurance coverage. It named council members Dale Westoff, Dana Dawson and Randy Myers to the committee to make a recommendation. They are joined by three city staff members.

NRCS to provide $332 million to protect and restore agricultural working lands, grasslands and wetla

The U.S. Department of Agriculture's (USDA) Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) is making available $332 million in financial and technical assistance through the Agricultural Conservation Easement Program (ACEP). ACEP applications may be submitted at any time to NRCS however, applications for the current funding cycle must be submitted on or before May 15, 2015.
