Barton honors former student’s memory with stained glass window

Wiping tears of mixed emotions from their somber faces, Bob and Janice Dunavan removed a small curtain and for the first time laid their eyes on the stained glass window crafted in the name of their son, Michael, who lost a fight at age 27 with his degenerative condition, Freidreich's ataxia, in January of 2008.

Hoisington names Cardinal Core

HOISINGTON - Hoisington High School students are nominated for the Cardinal Core by living the positive attitudes established by the students. Ashley Durr and Jenny Fercking have been nominated for helping to run the Garrett Blaze Memorial Debate Tournament. Ashley and Jenny used their grit all day on a Saturday always willing to do what was needed to make sure it tournament ran efficiently.

Linda A. Renfro, 65, died Oct. 9 at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center. Born July 24, 1947 in Great Bend, she was the daughter of Lawrence J. and Eleanor C. (Kramer) Churchill. On March 16, 1963, she married Willard F. Renfro Jr. in Great Bend. A lifetime resident of Great Bend, she was employed at St. Rose Ambulatory and Surgery Center in the business office.

LARNED - Rev. John "Johnny" W. Augmon, 68, died Oct. 5 at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita. Born Dec. 5, 1943 in Great Bend, he was the son of Claude and Hazel Irene Shepherd Augmon. A lifetime resident of Larned, he served as a pastor at ESCUE Chapel in Larned, St. John CME in Hutchinson, Wesley Chapel CME in Coffeyville and most recently at St. Matthews CME in Wichita.

Michelle Denise Price, 40, died Oct. 7 in Hutchinson. Born Nov. 24, 1971 in Great Bend, she was the daughter of Dennis Lowell and Brenda (Creacy) Price. She married Scott Piland. A longtime resident of Great Bend, she worked for Walmart and Life Touch as a photographer. She enjoyed karaoke, helping others, the lake and scuba diving.

Chiefs go 1-1 against Hutch

The Great Bend Chiefs split a Friday night doubleheader with Hutchinson at the Great Bend Sports Complex. Great Bend fell in the opening game of the series by a score of 9-8. The Chiefs regrouped and delivered a 13-3 routing of the visitors in game two for the 1-1 split. Friday's second game was called in the fourth by virtue of the mercy rule.
