American Legion Post #128 to host reunion/dinner

The 17th Annual Kansas Iwo Jima Reunion and Dinner was founded by the late Walt Vincent in 1996. This is the inaugural year to include other World War II veterans. The event will be on May 5 at the Arden H. McKee American Legion Post #128, 108 East Garfield in Sterling, The door will open at 2:30 p.m. for refreshments and viewing of memorabilia. All veterans are invited and encouraged to bring personal memorabilia.

Thomas Boor running for City Council

Thomas Boor is running for City County of the Third Ward in Great Bend. Thomas was born and raised in Great Bend and graduated in 1983 from Great Bend High School. After graduation he served in the United States Navy. Following his service he attended Devry Institute of Technology in Kansas City.

BCARSP meeting

The Barton County Association of Retired School Personnel met at the Club at Stone Ridge at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, March 9. President Rose Kelly called the meeting to order and led the flag salute. Becky Dudrey gave the invocation. Forty-eight members and two guests, Joyce Weeden and Doneida Baker, were present. Rose introduced visitors Judy Jones, District IV KARSP Director; and her husband, Max Jones.

Soil can be defined as the skin of the earth or the area of exchange between the earth and the atmosphere. Summer Driver Education

Parents of students interested in enrolling in the summer session of Driver Education are invited to attend a Driver Ed meeting held by Mr. Meter on April 11 in the GBHS commons. Barton student Devan Boeger lands Bronze Scholar award on Coca-Cola's 2012 Community Academic Team

Facing graduation in May, sophomore at Barton Community College Devan Boeger would have easily been able to look back on the last two years with comfort, pride and a sense of accomplishment. Those emotions however, have recently been amplified, as Boeger is the recipient of a Bronze Scholar Award, a prestigious national honor recognizing only the top 0.1 percent of the 125,000 members of Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society.

Helen Marie Steincamp, 84, died Jan. 10, 2015, at Via Christi St. Francis Regional Medical Center, Wichita. Born Oct. 12, 1930, at Redwing, she was the daughter of Joseph R. and Anna Marie (Proksch) Dietz. She was a 1948 graduate of Hoisington High School.
