The Barton Community College women's track and field team placed 7th at the NJCAA Region VI Championship this past weekend at Ahearn Field House in Manhattan.
Kevin Ellis became the first Barton Community College soccer player to make it all the way to Major League Soccer when he signed a contract with Sporting Kansas City last Friday. Ellis inked the contract at a press conference Friday afternoon. Ellis did not need to be drafted as part of the MLS program for home grown players. Ellis is a native of Kansas City, Mo.

Kent Darrell Hoss, 57, died Feb. 20 at Great Bend Health and Rehabilitation Center after a three battle with cancer. Born June 29, 1953 in Great Bend, he was the son of Paul and Dorothy Alice (Hall) Hoss. A resident of Great Bend most of his life, he was a carpenter and roofer.
George Franklin Trimmer III, 63, of Great Bend died Feb. 19 at Great Bend Regional Hospital. Born Jan. 22, 1948, in Council Bluffs, Ia. he was the son of George and Edna Law Trimmer. Barton Community College's Leadership Excellence Series schedule has been changed. The morning program offering all four sessions has been changed to Tuesday, March 8, meeting from 8 a.m. to noon at the Front Door, 1615 10th Street, Great Bend. TOPEKA - The Kansas Supreme Court announced Wednesday that Lisa Taylor has been appointed public information director for the Kansas Judicial Branch. Taylor succeeds Ron Keefover, who founded the court's public information office in 1981 and retired in September.
The state's number one librarian will visit the Great Bend Public Library when it holds an open house from noon to 3 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 9.
