SHERWOOD SHORES, Texas - Eva Mae Skinner, 88, died on Nov. 7, at Sherwood Shores (Lake Texoma), Texas. She was born on Jan. 9, 1926, in Great Bend, one of eight children of Isaac William and Ethel (Booze) Root. Her parents operated a feed and poultry store on Main Street in Great Bend. She graduated from Great Bend High School in 1944 and was employed by the telephone company in Great Bend and later as a bookkeeper. She married Dewey Lee Skinner on May 19, 1946 in Great Bend. Pauline Wagner, 90, died Nov. 9, at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita. Born Dec. 27, 1923, in Ellis, she was the daughter of Joe and Agatha (Gaschler) Weber. She married Gilbert Aloysius Orth Sr. He later died. On Sept. 13, 1968, she married Daylon John Wagner in Cheyenne Wells, Colo. He died on March 26, 1994. A Great Bend resident since 1969, coming from Hays, she was a beautician.

A frustrating season for the Barton Community College volleyball team came to an end Sunday in the opening round of the Region VI Championships. Barton's season ended with a 24-26, 25-18, 25-16, 25-15 loss to Colby at the Sports Arena in Hutchinson.
Saturday produced a very good win for the Barton Community College men's basketball team – a win over a Top 20 team. Friday, though, kept the Cougars from a perfect weekend and a 4-0 start to the season.
It was a rather mundane weekend for the Barton Community College women's basketball team. Mundane in a good way as the Cougars rolled to a pair of blowout wins at the Conquistador Classic in Dodge City.
At the Moundridge Invitational Debate Tournament the GBHS debate squad placed second in sweepstakes. In the open division the team of Aaron Miller and Ashtin Heath had a 4-1 win/loss record and placed 3rd. In the novice division the three man team of Urial Renteria, Becca Kay and, Sara Allen placed 5th with a 4-1 win/loss record. Also in the novice division the team of Kylynn Keeler and Hadley Murphy placed 8th with 3/2 win/loss record. Everyone on the team placed. The team plans to compete at KMC next weekend.
