Stan and Janet Crawford will celebrate their 50th anniversary with a open house from 1 to 4 p.m. on Feb. 26 at the First Congregational United Church of Christ, 3400 21st St. in Great Bend. Stan serves as the Pastor at the church. Hosts for the event will be their daughters and grandchildren. They invite those attending to bring a memory or photograph to share for a scrapbook. The couple requests no gifts.

SALINA - Steve E. Campbell, 63, Salina, went to be with his Lord on Feb. 18. He was born April 20, 1947 in Stafford, the son of Edward and Betty (Bates) Campbell. He was an Air Force Vietnam Veteran and worked for R & A Auto Electric and WPM Pathology Lab and was a member and elder of Belmont Blvd. Christian Church. Steve was a pilot and loved to fly, loved his 55 Pontiac and loved spending time with his family.

ELLINWOOD - Lawrence Birzer, 83, died Feb. 17 at Promise Regional Hospital in Hutchinson. Born Oct. 24, 1927 near Ellinwood in rural Barton County,he was the son of John Birzer and Isabell Frenzl. A lifetime resident of Ellinwood he was a retired farmer and oilfield pumper. He retired from Ladd Oil Company in 1987 after 34 years as a pumper. On April 27, 1948 he married Catherine Esfeld in Great Bend. Mr. Birzer was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus #1187, both in Ellinwood

The Clara Barton Hospital Foundation is currently seeking applicants for their 2014 healthcare career scholarships. Each year the Foundation desires to present several individuals with scholarships. Scholarship amount varies with the merits of the application and funds available from the endowments. The four scholarships to be awarded are: Jonathan Witt Scholarship, Sadie Stalcup Scholarship, Verda Lane Nursing Scholarship and Dr. Robert Moore Scholarship.
