WICHITA - A Lyons man has been charged with the armed robbery of a bank in Arlington, U.S. Attorney Barry Grissom announced Wednesday.

Historical Society to offer free admission to veterans Friday

Barton County Historical Society will pay tribute to veterans on Friday, Nov. 11. All veterans and their families will be admitted to the museum at no charge. The museum, located south of the Arkansas River bridge on U.S. 281, will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and light refreshments will be available during the afternoon. An exhibit of uniforms from the Spanish-American War through the Gulf War is on display.

Library to celebrate National Gaming Day Saturday

Great Bend Public Library, 1409 Williams St., will celebrate National Gaming Day from 1-4 p.m. Saturday. Young Adult Librarian Jennifer King said students in grades seven and up, as well as adults, are invited to come to play a variety of board games, card games, video games and computer games.

Family Crisis Center launches a re-designed website, Facebook page

The Family Crisis Center Inc. announced the re-launch of its website Tuesday. Located at www.familycrisiscntr.org, the site has been re-designed to reflect the center's new logo and gives information about domestic violence, sexual violence, and stalking along with available services and contact information.

Great Bend is making a revived effort to get young working adults involved in the community by reorganizing the Barton County Young Professionals group. Great Bend High School assembly to honor vets

Great Bend High School will honor veterans at 9:40 a.m. on Friday with an assembly. Student Council president Luke Abbott will lead everyone in the Pledge of Allegiance, and the GBHS Madrigals will sing the Star Spangled Banner. The GBHS Marching Panther Band will play Salute to Freedom and Salute to America's Finest. The Jazz Band will play God Bless the USA. The New Republican Tar Pits

It's kind of sad being forced to watch the death struggle of these modern-day dinosaurs. Responsible parents should keep their kids from peering over the Plexiglas railing into the tar pits below to see the huge lumbering antediluvian beasts frenziedly dig themselves deeper into the sticky morass that is gay marriage. Great Bend High School Panther bowling results

The Great Bend Panther bowling squads made an early departure from town on Saturday morning as they traveled to The Alley in Wichita for the 8 team Andover Tournament. In girls action it was sophomore Allie Brodrick who led the way with her team high 560 series. Following close behind was sophomore Kylynn Keeler with a 533 series, senior Abby Rose with a 515 series and senior Addie Soukup with a 514 series.
