BCC Theatre announces auditions for summer musical 'Pirates of "enzance'

RUSSELL - The Barton Community College Theatre Department, in conjunction with the Russell Arts Council, will host auditions for their upcoming summer musical production of Gilbert & Sullivan's satirical opera "Pirates of Penzance," at 6 p.m. Monday, May 7 in the Ruppenthal Middle School Auditorium, 400 North Elm St., Russell.

Superheroes ready to battle hunger

Members of the Thr3Elements youth group at CrossPoint Church will don their favorite superhero costumes this weekend to help battle hunger. The youth, in grades 7-12, are inviting community members to become heros as well by donating items to the Barton County Community Food Bank, Youth Pastor Randy Mills said.

Cultural festival precedes dedication of Mormon temple

One Heart in the Heartland, a cultural festival of Midwestern music and dance, will precede the dedication of the new Kansas City Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormons) this weekend. The festival will be held from 6-7:30 p.m. Saturday at the Kansas City Municipal Auditorium, and the actual dedication of the temple will follow on Sunday.
