Marian Beakey Call, 93, passed away Thursday, July 9, 2015, at The Cedars in McPherson. Born July 12, 1921, in Great Bend, she was the daughter of Arthur and Isabella (Schwager) Beakey. She was the oldest of six children.

The Ellinwood City Council will conduct the regular council meeting Tuesday, July 14 at 7 p.m. At that meeting, a service award will be presented to electric department employee Chris Komarek for his 35 years of service to the City of Ellinwood. MEDICINE LODGE - Everett Millard Kimball, 89, died July 8, 2015, at his residence. He was born on Feb. 4, 1926, in Medicine Lodge, the son of Millard A. Kimball and Grace E. (Pearce) Kimball. On April 8, 1947, he married Josephine M. (Becker) Kimball in St. Leo. She preceded him in death on Jan. 28, 2011. Everett was a retired oil field worker. Everett was an avid fisherman and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
LACROSSE - JoAnn A. Schuckman, 92, died Thursday, July 9, 2015, at Rush County Memorial Hospital Long Term Care, La Crosse. Born Jan 11, 1923, in Loretto, she was the daughter of John and Catherine (Schoenfeldt) Basgall. She was a lifelong resident of Rush County, Kansas.
The United Way of Central Kansas is teaming up with the City of Great Bend to host our annual Community Hot Dog Feed in conjunction with the Movie in the Square on Thursday, July 16. The event was rescheduled after it was postponed during June Jaunt due to inclement weather.

The Great Bend City Band performed Thursday night at the Crest Theater in Great Bend. Several Larned members perform. The Larned contingent features front row, Larned High band director Katie Sperry, Mary Hunter, Jan Wysong, Kwinter Hartshorn, and Kate Schroeder, LHS senior; back row, Russell Linderer, Marc Colglazier, Chase Penka, Jack Anderson, Dalton McClendon, LHS student. Sperry serves in the Army Reserves and plays the clarinet in the Army Band, which recently performed during a Kansas City Royals game.
