Great Bend City Slickers

Great Bend City Slicers 4-H Club met on Feb. 17 at the Pizza Hut. There were eight members, eight parents are four guests present. Members were reminded of 4-H Days on March 2. The next meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. on March 14 at the old 4-H building.

USD 428, Holy Family, Central Kansas Christian Academy and HeadStart Schools

The following meals will be served March 4 through March 8. The secondary schools also have available daily: Main dish second choices, chef's salad, combo lunches and choice of vegetables and dessert. The breakfast menu is offered only to students in USD 428. Menus are subject to change without notice. Milk served with all meals. All meals as offered meet USDA nutritional guidelines.

Entries now being accepted for the First District Congressional Arts Competition

Congressman Tim Huelskamp announced today that entries are now being accepted for the 2013 Congressional Arts Competition. All high school students in the First Congressional District are encouraged to participate in this competition. The winning artwork will be displayed in the U.S. Capitol for one year.

Volunteers in Action News

We are proud to announce that Linn Hogg has been selected as Volunteer Coordinator for Volunteer Connections. In this position, Linn will be working with volunteers from school age children to college students to young adults, in fact, anyone under the age of 55. Linn brings great enthusiasm as well as wonderful experience working with the Relay for Life, Barton Community Concerts and other community volunteer efforts. All of us at RSVP are looking forward to this expansion into a full volunteer center and to working with Linn.

The Barton County Association of Retired School Personnel will meet at 11:30 a.m. on Friday at Montana Mike's, 906 McKinley in Great Great Bend. President Sally O'Connor will chair the meeting. Treasurer Lennie Gales will accept dues of $20 from those who have not paid.

Great Bend High School Bowling results

On Tuesday the Great Bend Panthers traveled to Garden City for a triangular meet with Garden City and Holcomb. The Great Bend girls won the competition by rolling a team series of 2223 and earned six of the possible 11 points. The girls were led in scoring by sophomore Allie Brodrick's 577 series which earned her a 3rd place medal in the contest. Other Lady Panthers who rolled big games include: senior Addie Soukup's 238 game and sophomore McKenzy Black's games of 194 and 201. Just guessing here, but I imagine forecasters at the Weather Channel are embarrassed about having to give winter storms names like "Juno," "Kari" and "Linus." Court Can Save Millions from Illegal Obamacare Taxes

The full-court press is on from every organ of enlightened liberal opinion: the Supreme Court must not decide this term's big Obamacare case, King v. Burwell, on the actual legal merits, which are a slam-dunk for the plaintiffs. Instead, supporters of the government want the case decided on the consequences of the Court stopping the flow of illegal subsidies. And they want to ignore the fact that stopping the subsidies will actually free millions of people in opt-out states from the individual and employer mandates. They only want to talk about people who would lose subsidies.
