School menu

The following meals will be served August 19 through August 23. The secondary schools also have available daily: Main dish second choices, chef's salad, combo lunches and choice of vegetables and dessert. The breakfast menu is offered only to students in USD 428. Menus are subject to change without notice. Milk served with all meals. All meals as offered meet USDA nutritional guidelines.

Bargain hunters attend City auction

Bicycles could be purchased for as little as $1, Friday at the City of Great Bend's auction. Dozens of bicycles that have been recovered since the last auction were lined up in front of the Great Bend Police Department, along with plastic gas containers, printers, video games and other items. Along with surplus city items, auctioneer Ken Schremmer sold abandoned or unclaimed property the city has accumulated.

Barbara Ann Vander Meer 1945 - 2013

ELLINWOOD - Barbara Ann Vander Meer, 67, died Aug. 15 at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, Minn. She was born Nov. 24, 1945, at Le Mars, Iowa, the daughter of Al and Ruby Bell Grosenheider. She married Thomas J. Vander Meer on Nov. 25, 1966, at Yankton, S.D. She worked as office manager for Drs. Holt, Preston and Peck, and secretary for the maintenance department at Central Kansas Medical Center. A 35-year resident of Great Bend, formerly of Yankton, S.D., she moved to Ellinwood in April.
