County Commission to meet Tuesday

Due to Barton County offices being closed Monday for Martin Luther King Jr. Day, the Barton County Commission will hold its weekly agenda meeting at 9 a.m. Tuesday at the courthouse, 1400 Main in Great Bend. The agenda includes the 2013 tax sale, proposals for audit services, a county adopt-a-highway program, a road vacation and a lease agreement for wildlife habitat development on county-owned land in Hoisington.

Sports complex marketing on council agenda

The Great Bend City Council will meet at 7:30 p.m. Monday at City Hall, 1209 Williams. The agenda includes a marketing plan for the Great Bend Sports Complex, the Wetlands Education Center Annual Report, the America's Promise Award application and abatement requests.

We are well underway with the second semester in the Ellinwood Public School district. Winter athletics are reaching the midpoint of their seasons, and academically the district is diligently preparing students for a rigorous curriculum as we transition to the new common core standards. The district also has many exciting initiatives planned for the second half of the school year. We are greatly looking forward to the many accomplishments our students will achieve during the second semester!

City of Claflin Council meeting

The governing body of the City of Claflin met in regular session at 7 p.m. on Dec. 10 in the city building. Present were, Mayor Michael Urban, Councilpersons Kirk Schneweis, Kelly Nixon, Casey Hubbard and Leon Oberle. Oil well completions up from year ago levels
