LARNED - Tina Louise Phillips-Marler, 46, passed away Sept. 13, 2011, at her daughter's home in Larned. She was born Oct. 20, 1964, in Sparta, Ill.; the daughter of Stanley Stanko, Charles Sylvester and Judith Ann Carlyle Marler. A Larned resident since 1984, moving from Scott City; she worked in Dietary at the Larned State Hospital and also various restaurants.
MADISON, Conn. - Mary MacArthur died peacefully on Sept. 14, 2011, after a long and admirable battle with cancer.

A Great Bend man was transported to a Wichita hospital Thursday afternoon after he was injured in a work-related accident at Great Bend Industries, the Great Bend Fire Department reported.
Monday, Sept. 12, the TLC Discoveries kids made posters for the two fire stations thanking them for all they do and being our hometown Hero's. This idea came from Lexie Brack after watching all of the 9/11 shows on TV on Sunday. She wanted to do something for our firemen to thank them. So the kids all signed the posters and she took a car load to deliver them. They had a good time talking to the men and thanking them.
"Let's Move!"a national organization with the initiative to decrease childhood obesity is planning a day this month to raise national awareness and to get America active, at least for one day. "Let's Move Day" is being held across America on Sept. 25. Dr. Bell Razafindrabe, of The Spine Clinic, and the Great Bend Seventh-day Adventist Church, are encouraging the community to get involved in the day with free activities for all ages.
U.S. Senator Jerry Moran (R-KS) announced today that he is accepting applications for nominations to the United States Service Academies. The academies include the U.S. Military Academy in West Point, N.Y.; the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md.; the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo.; and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, N.Y. Those selected will enter the academies in June 2012.

Charlene Nickle Shelor, 91, died Sept. 5. Born in Loco, Okla. on Oct. 31, 1922, she was the daughter and ninth of 10 children to Robert D. and Callie (Cain) Nickle, including brothers Manuel, Leonard, J.W., Gerald, Donald, and sisters Lucille (Miether), Retha Bell (Orr), Beattie (Rue), and Bobbie (Mack).
ELLINWOOD - Wanda Carol Dannebohm, 79, died Sept. 5 at Leisure Homestead, St. John. Born May 21, 1935 at Hutchinson, she was the daughter of Finis and Mildred (Hoefer) Woolery.
