Petroleum demand rose in June and 2nd quarter

WASHINGTON ─ Total U.S. petroleum deliveries (a measure of demand) grew by 4.2 percent from June 2014 to average 19.6 million barrels per day last month. In the second quarter, demand increased by 3.7 percent compared to the same period last year.

GBRC to hold adult tennis tournament

The Great Bend Recreation Commission will be hosting a USTA Adult Open Tennis Tournament on Saturday, July 25th, and Sunday, July 26th. The tournament is open for anyone ages 18 and older. GBRC will be offering the following singles and doubles divisions: men's open, men's 4.5, men's 3.5, women's open, women's 4.5, women's 3.5, doubles and mixed doubles. Braves end season in pool play, Chiefs fall in two to Russell

It was a hot and rough Thursday for local American Legion baseball teams. Following a 9-1 loss to Andover in pool play, the Great Bend Braves fell to Hays, 18-0 ending Great Bend's season.

Rebel softball wins state title

HAYS- Great Bend's 16U Rebel softball team won the Kansas KSA Class C state championship last weekend at the state tournament in Hays. Great Bend received a first round bye then defeated Clay Center 17-2 and Kansas Storm twice by scores of 4-3 and 5-2 in the championship game. The Rebels improved upon their 3rd place finish at state last year. The team includes players from Great Bend and Lyons. The Rebels are coached by Bob Marcum, Steve Neeland, and Alex Cape.
