HOISINGTON - Fears that all children face and how the Bible tackles those very fears in the life of one of its principle characters is the focus of Vacation Bible School at New Life Baptist, 364 West 12, Hoisington. Running 6:30-8:30 p.m., Aug. 5-9, the VBS is open to all children, ages 4 through finished 6th grade.

Mildred Irene Pelton, 99, died July 31 at Cherry Village Nursing Home in Great Bend. Born Nov. 8, 1913, in Inman, she was the daughter of William C. and Dora (Harder) Hassman. On March 12, 1935, she married Charles F. German. He died on April 18, 1961. She then married Lowell Henry Pelton on Aug. 12, 1978, at Claflin. He died on Jan. 7, 2002. A resident of Claflin from 1945 until she moved to Cherry Village in 2009, she was a payroll clerk for Central Kansas Medical Center and a secretary at Claflin High School.
Margaret Rose Campbell, 73, died July 31 at Great Bend Regional Hospital. Born March 30, 1940, in Odin, she was the daughter of Lawrence Ernest and Mary Margaret (Lewis) Debes. On April 4, 1961, she married Gary Lee Campbell in Great Bend, A resident of Great Bend since 1959, coming from Bushton, she was employed as a custodian for Great Bend USD 428 and had worked in the District Education Office.
